Parenting a teen can make you question your sanity and it's easy to think you're alone, but Insta-dad Christo “Fer,” known as Fer The Awesome on social media platforms, has documented his own struggles and they're a life raft in the sea of parenting madness. Yours isn't the only teen that does this thing or that and the knowledge is a gift! His videos reenacting moments with his own son (he plays both parts) have wracked up tens of millions of views.
Teacher said I don't have to do it...
Your teen's teacher doesn't like talking to their students, their parents, or getting messages. So whatever you do, don't reach out to them about that missing assignment you see in the app. Besides, it wasn't really due; the kid who sits next to your teen said so.
It's taking forever to save!
Your teen has been playing that game for hours, and now it's time to do something else. What are the chances they leap to their feet the first time you ask?
Don't tune out, it'll cost you
"How was school?" you ask. "Good," they answer. In a world of one-word answers, sometimes there comes an unexpected torrent of information told in a rambling, barely coherent manner. Pay attention, there's a reason.
A month, or like, a week... or was it two months ago? They told you about it, and you didn't say no, so boom, $80 game on your credit card.
I dunno, Jeremy's mom will take us home or whatever maybe
They didn't say they were going, and they're not sure what they're doing when they get there or how they'll get back. They're not sure if they'll eat, and if they do, they're not sure how they'll pay for it. To be fair, parents used to not even ask in the first place so who's to say our answers would have been any better?
The familiarity of Christo's posts are almost unsettling, you can get the impression he has mics hidden in your house, but each ultra-relatable moment gives just that little bit of comfort knowing your teen isn't the only one. It won't make them save that game any faster but it might make it a little easier to tolerate!
