Man solves mask problem by building a gun that shoots masks onto people's faces

Allen Pan decided a uniquely American problem deserved a uniquely American solution. So, he built a gun that shoots masks onto people's faces. The type of person who refuses to wear a mask probably overlaps greatly with the type of person who loves guns, so it's kind of genius.

Allen posted a video documenting his mask gun-making project on his YouTube channel, Sufficiently Advanced, and he also posted a short video demonstrating the gun in action on Twitter, where it immediately went super viral.

In the YouTube video, Allen talks through his thought process. "It feels like people just aren't wearing masks," he says. "And they should be! So what are we going to do about it? What am I going to do about it? Well, I could make a fun educational video about how safe and effective masks are with like a flamethrower on the mouth and a mask.

"No! No. There are so many smart people that have made so many good videos about how masks are safe and effective and if that worked, it would have worked by now." As he talks, a string version of the Star-Spangled Banner plays in the background.

He continues, "No, this is not a world of fact anymore. This is a world of opinion and emotion. And if there's one thing that coronavirus protesters actually care about, it's the Second Amendment. That's right: guns!"

Once his mind is made up, Allen proceeds to build a gun that launches a face mask at, well, a face, and has long strings and weights on all four corners to make sure it twists and semi-fastens in the back. He tests it on a dummy at first, and it works immediately.

Sure it looks crazy, but it works. Allen even attached a laser to the launcher to make sure that the gun shoots accurately. So, with his new, effective invention in tow, Allen took to Huntington Beach in Southern California, one of the most conservative towns in the area, and one where many have made a great stink about the mask mandate.

With the help of a friend, he tested the gun on himself in public, and then let some other people try it out on a mannequin head. While they had some issues with the launcher, the gun mostly worked.

Still, Allen knew he probably couldn't run up to an unmasked person and shoot this at them without risking retaliation. He said he even brought his running shoes with him in case he ended up being chased by an angry mask-refusing mob. You can watch the whole video below.

Allen may not have solved the U.S.'s problem when it comes to people's willingness to wear masks. But his project does point out that Americans really view themselves as different and better than the rest of the world.

In most other countries, the vast majority of people willingly put a simple mask on when it became clear that it would help curb the spread of the coronavirus. But our shoddy leadership and hubris among our top officials needlessly transformed wearing a mask into a political statement. In conclusion, wear a mask, or Allen Pan might make you.
