Colgate University is investigating two racist TikToks made by students

Students at Colgate University are facing administrative discipline and online backlash after a series of racist TikToks have gone viral. The first TikTok was posted by a student admitted to the university's class of 2024 who had yet to start her time on campus, while another was made by current students at Colgate.
These TikToks come as Black Lives Matter protesters call out police brutality and systemic racism in America, holding marches for several weeks across the country.
A student's admission to Colgate was revoked over a racist TikTok.
The original TikTok shared by the admitted student was reposted on Instagram by a former high school student at Morristown-Beard High School. In the video, the girl, who has been identified as Sarah Laude, uses TikTok's green screen feature to show a Google search for "African American." She then zooms in on the "shopping" tab.
"Get in loser, we're going shopping," she mouths along to the audio, while the caption reads "it's a joke please don't come at me."
"Day #2 of MBS kids being blatantly disrespectful and insensitive," the caption on the post reads.
The video identifies that Sarah was planning to attend Colgate University.
According to the Colgate Maroon-News, the college's weekly newspaper, students at Colgate Unversity called for the TikTok to be investigated and for the student's expulsion. On June 23, the university announced they had revoked her admission to Colgate.
“I want to point out that the level of ignorance shown in these videos is appalling," Colgate University President Brian Casey said in a statement, according to the outlet. "In a time when we have seen people across the world rightfully outraged by the recent killings of George Floyd and countless other [Black] men and women and we see nearly every institution in the country looking at the nature and effect of systemic racism, these videos evince a level of cruelty that is staggering."
A racist TikTok created by current Colgate students is also being investigated.
In addition to the TikTok posted by the incoming student, another racially insensitive TikTok created by current Colgate students is under investigation by the university.
The Colgate Maroon-News describes the TikTok, reporting that it "mocks" affirmative action. The video involves two students acting out a conversation with a college counselor and a Black student "in which the student says the counselor is racist for saying they might not get into Yale with their 1.3 Grade Point Average (GPA)," the outlet reports.
The video then features a Black student dancing, implicating their admittance to Yale.
"The Black student featured in the video was not aware of the context when they were filmed for the end of the video," the Colgate Maroon-News writes.
The Colgate Student Coalition released a statement about the videos, encouraging other students to denounce them.
“All three of them posted these videos without regard to the millions of Black Americans who have been murdered by law enforcement, murdered by community members, murdered by those whose job it is to keep them safe," the statement reads. "The individuals clearly ignore the fact that this country was founded on racist ideals and do not show any sort of understanding about how affirmative action really works.”
At this time, no disciplinary action has been taken against the current students.
