It was devastating when Chrissy Teigen announced that she had a miscarriage well into her third pregnancy. In an emotional post on Instagram at the time, Chrissy wrote, "We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital. But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever."
Recently, a little more than a month after the tragic news, Chrissy posted a couple of videos to Instagram in which she shared how Luna, her daughter, has decided to honor Jack. They just received a small box with Jack's ashes, and what Luna decided to do next is sure to touch your heart.
"This is the cutest, most beautiful thing I have ever seen," Chrissy narrates over the video. "We just got baby Jack's ashes back, so they're in here for now with some blessed, holy, tied string. And Luna put a little therapy bear around him, and the best part is I came down and she gave him a piece of her favorite snack, a tiny piece of Pirate's Booty. I can't — I don't know. She's amazing."
In her caption, she writes, "Our house is very open about life, death, grief, everything really. We try to explain things well and answer every question imaginable in a beautiful, spiritual but literal way.
"I know this is a weird post but I just wanted to share these to always remember my incredibly empathetic little mini. Life is infinitely better with her in it. I miss u, Jack. We miss you a lot."
In a second video in the post, Chrissy films Luna introducing Jack to the teddy bear and vice versa. She makes sure Jack is snug in the teddy bear's arms and even uses his tag as a protective wall for Jack. It's beyond sweet, and if you're anything like us, it's bound to make you emotional.
Little kids are not only smart and capable of understanding tough topics, but they're also often beacons of light and hope and optimism when it's hard to find it yourself. Luna is proof of that.
What Chrissy, John, Luna, and Miles went through is so indescribably hard. But the fact that they have each other means everything. Chrissy decided to share her story with the world, which couldn't have been easy, but in sharing, she was able to offer solidarity to others who've experienced similar things, and she was able to receive comfort from those same people.
In an essay she penned on Medium, Chrissy wrote, "People say an experience like this creates a hole in your heart. A hole was certainly made, but it was filled with the love of something I loved so much. It doesn't feel empty, this space. It feels full.
"Maybe *too* bursting full, actually. I find myself randomly crying, thinking about how happy I am to have two insanely wonderful little toddlers who fill this house with love. I smother them with love while they “Moooooooom!!!!!” me. I don't care."
"Jack will always be loved," Chrissy continues, "explained to our kids as existing in the wind and trees and the butterflies they see. Thank you so much to every single person who has had us in their thoughts or gone as far as to send us your love and stories. We are so incredibly lucky."
