L.A. mayor shut off power at influencer's House for throwing parties during pandemic

Turns out that influencers like TikTok and YouTube star Bryce Hall aren't stopping partying just because there's a deadly global pandemic. And it also turns out that the Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, actually has the power to do something about it.

Apparently Hall and his roommates, also TikTok stars have been throwing huge parties at their Hollywood Hills residence, in addition to a giant birthday bash at a house in Encino known as the Sway House. So, like a mad dad, Garcetti swayed in and shut off the power at his Hollywood Hills home.

In an official statement, Garcetti's office claims that "city action comes after multiple warnings from City and County officials and law enforcement to stop hosting large parties that spread the coronavirus."

It reads, "With more than 2,000 Angelenos — and over 170,000 Americans — lost to COVID-19, we need every resident to undertake critical safeguards to stop the spread of this virus. That includes not hosting or attending parties that put themselves, their neighbors, and many others at risk.

"Despite several warnings, this house has turned into a nightclub in the hills, hosing large gatherings in flagrant violation of our public health orders. The City has now disconnected utilities at this home to stop these parties that endanger our community.

If we wish to reopen more businesses, return our kids to school, or get back to our normal lives, we must wear masks, wash our hands frequently, and as we're emphasizing today, avoid gatherings with others. All of these actions save lives."

Police say that in the recent weeks, the house, which is on Appian Way, was the site of "at least two large gatherings," according to KTLA.

New York Times reporter Taylor Lorenz clarifies in a Twitter thread that Bryce's 21st birthday party, which was held fairly recently, wasn't actually held at the Hollywood Hills home that ended up getting its utilities cut off.

That party took place at a house in Encino with an address on Hayvenhurst known as the Sway Gaming House. She writes, "Bryce has obviously still had parties at his Hollywood Hills home at other points though (the one they cut power off at). He even had a smaller party there the night before his huge 21st b day in Encino. So not like the Mayor shut off power at the wrong house, just wanted to note."

Although Bryce hasn't done much in the way of responding to this power shut off, he tweeted a message about an hour-and-a-half after Mayor Garcetti made this announcement. The entire message? "Suddenly the turns have tabled." Deep.

He also posted a TikTok video of himself and his roommate Blake Gray doing a head-bopping dance to the song, "Electric Love."

One neighbor spoke to Fox 11 about one of the parties: "The whole road was blocked, hundreds of kids, it was crazy, underage getting wasted, freaking out not knowing how to handle themselves, racing cars up and down, slamming each other on the ground, punching each other in the face, I mean it was entertaining but that's not what we want at 3 a.m. trying to sleep."

Bryce's house is one of three homes that have been "referred by the LAPD to the mayor's office for possible utility disconnection." Some people just refuse to stop throwing ragers.
